The Grand Rapids Parks and Recreation Department is bringing back the Free Outdoor Fitness Series for the ninth year, offering a unique blend of fitness and culture to the community. The series kicked off this week with Seben Dance, a group of individuals from various African countries, teaching Afro Dance to participants at 555 Monroe Avenue NW.
Co-founder Rebecca Mudiayi, originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo, expressed her joy in sharing her culture through dance with the Grand Rapids community. She highlighted the importance of bringing people together through dance and creating a sense of togetherness. Co-founder Jordan Masala echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the fun, friendship, and community that dance fosters.
The free fitness classes will continue every Wednesday through August 21 at 555 Monroe Avenue NW from 7 to 7:45 p.m. Participants are encouraged to join in, bring their energy, and connect with others in the community. The Grand Rapids Parks and Recreation Department aims to provide a variety of free outdoor fitness opportunities throughout the summer, with a full list available on the city’s website.
