The woman, who was on maternity leave and looking to earn extra income online, was enticed by fraudsters offering a simple task of rating companies and restaurants. After completing five tasks, she was promised a substantial payment. However, after transferring a total of Rs 54,30,000 to various accounts, she realized she had been scammed when the fraudsters disappeared without a trace.

The victim promptly reported the incident to the Navi Mumbai cyber police, who have launched an investigation and registered a case against four unidentified individuals under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act.

This unfortunate case underscores the importance of being cautious when considering work-from-home opportunities online. It is crucial to research the legitimacy of offers, be wary of unsolicited opportunities on social media, never pay fees upfront, and be skeptical of promises that seem too good to be true.
