The world’s top-ranked golfer, Scottie Scheffler, found himself in a whirlwind of events at the PGA Championship in Louisville, Kentucky. Scheffler was detained by police after being accused of dragging an officer with his car outside the tournament.

Footage captured by ESPN’s Jeff Darlington showed Scheffler being led away by officers, pleading for help. His attorney, Steve Romines, called the arrest a misunderstanding and vowed to litigate the case as it progresses.

The incident occurred before the second round of the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club, which was delayed due to a tragic accident involving a man named John Mills, who was fatally struck by a shuttle bus. The PGA of America expressed their condolences to Mills’ family and loved ones.

According to a police incident report, Scheffler allegedly drove into the westbound lane to avoid traffic congestion, ignoring the officer’s instructions and dragging him to the ground. The officer sustained injuries and Scheffler was subsequently booked on multiple charges.

In a statement, Scheffler claimed he was following police directions in a chaotic situation and expressed hope to focus on golf moving forward. Fans rallied behind him, chanting “Free Scottie” as he returned to the tournament and continued to perform well on the course.

Despite the legal proceedings, Scheffler’s focus remains on the game, having recently won the Masters and making a name for himself in the golfing world. The incident has cast a shadow over the PGA Championship, but Scheffler remains determined to put it behind him and continue his pursuit of success on the course.
