Meta’s newest project draws inspiration from the fundamental concepts of BeReal and Snapchat

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Meta, the parent company of Instagram, is once again making waves in the social media world with its latest feature in development called “Peek.” This new feature takes inspiration from popular platforms like BeReal and Snapchat, aiming to offer users a unique way to share authentic content.

“Peek” allows users to post pictures that can only be viewed once, similar to Snapchat’s ephemeral content model. However, unlike Snapchat, users will not be able to edit or add filters to their photos, staying true to the authentic and unedited content trend popularized by BeReal.

While Meta has not officially announced the feature, reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi shared a screenshot of the internal prototype, confirming its existence. The concept of “Peek” seems to be a more fleeting version of Instagram Stories, offering a new way for users to share spontaneous moments with their followers.

This new feature could be Instagram’s answer to the declining popularity of BeReal, as it provides a more flexible and user-friendly approach to authentic content sharing. With the potential to encourage users to share more personal moments with their loved ones, “Peek” could be a game-changer for the platform.

As with any internal prototype, it remains unclear when or if “Peek” will be rolled out to the public. However, if Instagram decides to launch the feature, it could potentially reshape the way users engage with the platform and compete with other social media giants in the market. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development from Meta.
