Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 golfer in the world, made headlines on Friday morning when he was arrested for allegedly driving past a police roadblock at the Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky. The arrest came shortly after a deadly accident near the golf course, where a man was fatally struck by a shuttle bus while trying to cross a road.

Scheffler claimed that he was following the directions of police officers in a chaotic and confusing situation following the accident. He was released from jail after processing and returned to the course just in time for his tee time. Despite the tumultuous morning, Scheffler managed to shoot a 6-under 66 and move into the top 5 by the end of his round.

However, the situation took a turn when a police officer attempted to stop Scheffler’s car, leading to an altercation that resulted in Scheffler being handcuffed and detained. The officer suffered injuries to his wrist and knee during the incident.

Scheffler now faces charges of second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic. The Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office is still gathering information and will proceed accordingly.

Despite the legal troubles, Scheffler remains focused on his golf game and is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday morning. The PGA of America expressed condolences to the family of the victim in the accident and stated that they are cooperating with local authorities in the investigation. The start of the second round of the PGA Championship was delayed due to the incident, but there were no other reported injuries.
