Yorgos Lanthimos, the acclaimed director behind hits like “The Favourite” and “Poor Things,” is back in the spotlight with his latest project, “Bugonia.” The film, starring Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons, was announced just a day after its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.

The script, penned by Will Tracy, follows two conspiracy-obsessed men who believe a high-powered CEO is an alien set on destroying Earth. The film has already been picked up by Focus Features for U.S. distribution, with Universal Pictures handling international release.

Based on the 2003 South Korean sci-fi comedy “Save the Green Planet,” “Bugonia” promises to be a thrilling ride for audiences. The English language adaptation was developed by Miky Lee’s CJ ENM, with the involvement of “Midsommar” director Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen at Square Peg.

The production team includes heavyweights like Ed Guiney, Andrew Lowe, and of course, Yorgos Lanthimos himself. Stone and Plemons, who have previously worked with Lanthimos on “The Favourite” and “Poor Things,” are set to deliver stellar performances once again.

Fans can also look forward to Lanthimos’ upcoming film, “Kinds of Kindness,” which is set to release on June 26. According to a review from “The Hollywood Reporter,” the film is a unique exploration of storytelling and societal norms that will leave audiences captivated.

With a star-studded cast and a visionary director at the helm, “Bugonia” is shaping up to be a must-watch for film enthusiasts around the world.
