Kim Zimmer, a beloved soap opera star known for her role on “The Guiding Light,” has revealed that she is battling breast cancer, a shocking coincidence given that her character on the show also suffered from the same affliction.
The actress, who portrayed Reva Shayne on the show from 1983 to 1990 and then again between 1995 and 2009, shared the news during the “Daytime Stands Up: A Benefit for Stand Up To Cancer – We All Have a Story” event. She disclosed that she received the diagnosis late last year.
In a video clip from the event, Zimmer mentioned that she has undergone a mastectomy and is expecting to have her final chemotherapy infusion later this month. Despite the challenges, she maintained a positive attitude, even joking about her new breast size.
Zimmer, a four-time Daytime Emmy Award winner, emphasized the importance of regular checkups and expressed gratitude for the support of her family during this difficult time.
Interestingly, Zimmer’s character on “The Guiding Light” also dealt with breast cancer in a storyline that unfolded over several seasons. In contrast to her character’s secrecy about the illness, Zimmer openly shared her diagnosis, highlighting the difference between fiction and reality.
Married to actor A.C. Weary since 1981, Zimmer is leaning on her family’s support as she navigates her cancer journey and serves as an inspiration to others facing similar challenges.
