Head coach Tim Cowan praised Putney’s performance, highlighting his velocity and location on the mound. Putney pitched 5 1/3 innings of no-hit baseball before reaching his pitch limit of 70. Owen Rush came in for relief and closed out the game, preserving Putney’s shutout.
The Fredonia offense came alive with key hits from players like Colin Crowell and Colin Luce, who both contributed with multiple RBIs. Crowell’s stellar performance included two doubles and three RBIs, showcasing his resilience and adaptability at the plate.
The Hillbillies’ victory sets up a home semifinal matchup against Portville on Wednesday. Cowan acknowledged the challenge ahead but emphasized the importance of executing their game plan to secure another win.
Despite the loss, Newfane put up a strong fight throughout the game, with Ben Dickinson’s double being their only hit of the night. The Panthers finished their season with a 10-6 record.
