Pasadena Now: Minimum Wage to Rise on July 1, 2024

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The City of Pasadena is gearing up for a significant change in its minimum wage policy, set to take effect on July 1, 2024. Local businesses in Pasadena will see an increase in the minimum wage from $16.93 per hour to $17.50 per hour, applicable to all businesses regardless of size.

However, there is an exception for fast-food workers employed at national chains. Starting April 1, 2024, the minimum wage for fast-food workers at national chain establishments will be set at $20.00 per hour, as mandated by the State of California. This new rate supersedes the local minimum wage for these specific employees.

The Pasadena City Council initially implemented its own minimum wage ordinance back in 2016, which was approved before the State of California’s actions. Pasadena’s minimum wage rules remain in effect and are separate from the state’s regulations, with a steeper increase in the minimum wage rate.

Following a series of annual increases, Pasadena’s minimum wage will now be adjusted based on the change in the consumer price index. The new wage rate will be effective until June 30, 2025, when it will undergo another adjustment.
