UM’s Campus Recreation team is gearing up to host a special event, the “Get Active” open house, on Saturday, June 1, in celebration of National Health and Fitness Day. This event will provide the community with free access to UM’s fitness and recreation facilities at the Active Living Centre, Frank Kennedy Centre, and the Joe Doupe Recreation Centre.

The open house aims to showcase the benefits of membership, offer access to top-notch fitness facilities, and foster a sense of community both on and off campus. From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the facilities will be open to the public for free, with a variety of activities scheduled throughout the day.

Tanya Angus, the director of Recreation Services at UM, expressed excitement about the event, stating, “Our goal is to encourage the community to come together, move their bodies, and connect with others who share similar interests. We believe in the power of physical activity and social interaction to enhance well-being.”

Activities at the open house will cater to all ages and fitness levels, whether you’re a seasoned athlete or new to recreational activities. From fitness classes to open gymnasium sessions, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

The event will take place at the Fort Garry Campus and the Joe Doupe Recreation Centre, offering a range of activities such as group fitness classes, recreational swim, and even a climbing wall experience. Participants are encouraged to bring indoor shoes, comfortable clothing, and photo ID.

Attendees will also have the chance to win prizes from UM Recreation Services, including a 4-month membership and branded swag. Don’t miss this opportunity to get active, have fun, and connect with the community at UM’s open house event on June 1.
