The University of Chicago Maroons made history today by capturing their first NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis National Championship. In a thrilling final match against Wesleyan (CT) at the Dwight Davis Memorial Tennis Center in St. Louis, the Maroons emerged victorious, capping off a remarkable season.

Having been runners-up in the past two seasons, the Maroons were determined to claim the title this year. With a 22-1 overall record and a 15-match winning streak coming into the championship match, they faced a formidable opponent in Wesleyan, who entered the match undefeated at 22-0.

The doubles play set the tone for the match, with UChicago taking an early lead by winning on court No. 1. Despite a strong fight from Wesleyan, the Maroons managed to secure two out of the three doubles points, putting them ahead 2-1 heading into singles play.

In a tense singles competition, UChicago needed just three victories to clinch the championship, while Wesleyan was looking for four. After a back-and-forth battle, it was Sylwia Mikos on court No. 2 who sealed the deal for the Maroons with a hard-fought victory.

This victory marks the third NCAA Championship in UChicago athletics history, with all three titles coming since the 2022 season. The Maroons will have a chance to add to their trophy collection as their men’s tennis team competes for the Men’s Title tomorrow.

The road to the championship was not easy, with the Maroons overcoming tough opponents in each round. From a bye in the first round to a thrilling 5-3 victory in the finals, UChicago showcased their talent and determination throughout the tournament.

Overall, it was a historic day for the University of Chicago Maroons as they etched their names in the record books as NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis National Champions.
