Ursuline and South Range Baseball Teams Advance to Regional Tournament
Ursuline and South Range have both secured spots in the regional tournament for the 2024 baseball season, despite facing different challenges along the way.
Ursuline, led by head coach Paul Kempe, overcame a series of ups and downs throughout the season to make their second regional appearance in three years. The Irish, a young team that found their groove at the perfect time, will now face off against West Branch, one of the top-ranked teams in the state.
On the other hand, South Range, the three-time defending district champions, lived up to their high expectations by dominating the district tournament and securing their seniors’ fourth consecutive district title. The Raiders will have the opportunity to avenge their regional final loss from last year against the two-time reigning state champion, Waynedale.
Both teams have shown resilience and determination to reach this point in the season. Ursuline, despite facing challenges with a young roster, managed to pull off key victories in the postseason, including an upset win over top-seeded Poland. South Range, on the other hand, navigated through a tough regular season schedule to prepare themselves for the playoffs.
As they prepare for their upcoming regional semifinal games on Thursday, May 30, both teams are focused on the challenges ahead. Ursuline will take on West Branch, looking to avenge their earlier loss, while South Range will face Waynedale, seeking redemption for last year’s defeat.
The matchup between these two talented teams promises to be an exciting showdown, with both Ursuline and South Range eager to continue their postseason success. Stay tuned for more updates on their journey through the regional tournament.
