The Niagara and Florence varsity softball teams clashed in a thrilling WIAA Division 5 Regional Championship game in Niagara, Wis. The No. 2-ranked Niagara faced off against the No. 3-ranked Florence, with both teams putting up a tough fight.
In the end, it was the Bobcats who emerged victorious with a 4-2 win over the Badgers. Despite a late rally from Florence, Niagara managed to hold on to secure the win.
Niagara head coach Joe Champeau praised both teams for their performance, acknowledging the close competition. Florence will now advance to the sectional round to face Newman Catholic, while Niagara bids farewell to its three seniors – Aiva Champeau, Emma Broullire, and Emma Brasure.
Aiva Champeau, the standout senior for Niagara, ended the season with an impressive batting average of .462 and led the team in RBIs and triples. Coach Champeau expressed gratitude for the seniors’ contributions to the team and wished them well in their future endeavors.
Allison Wood was a standout performer for Florence, pitching a stellar game with 10 strikeouts and allowing only two earned runs. The Bobcats’ offense was led by Wood, who also contributed at the plate with an RBI.
Despite the loss, Niagara put up a strong fight, with Elesia Sweig delivering a solid performance on the mound. The game was a testament to the talent and determination of both teams, making for an exciting matchup that kept fans on the edge of their seats.
