Reflections of a Chippewa Valley Technical College Graduate on Her College Journey

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Adriana Bernal’s journey from high school dropout to college graduate is nothing short of inspiring. Growing up in Racine, Bernal faced challenges that led her to put her education on hold. However, her determination and passion for plants paved the way for a new chapter in her life.

After obtaining her high school equivalency diploma at Chippewa Valley Technical College in April 2022, Bernal went on to graduate with an associate degree in landscape, plant, and turf management on May 16. Her dream of starting her own business, combining her love for plants and artistry to reduce carbon footprint, is now within reach.

Bernal’s green thumb has been evident since her childhood experiments with seeds, and her skills have only flourished over the years. With the support of her significant other, David Selbera, Bernal embraced the opportunity to study at CVTC and explore her passion for plants in a professional setting.

Transitioning from a stay-at-home mom to a full-time college student was a significant leap for Bernal, but with Selbera’s encouragement and the resources available at CVTC, she thrived. Immersing herself in campus life, Bernal discovered the Arts and Entertainment Club, Diversity Resources, and a supportive community that helped her grow personally and academically.

Reflecting on her college experience, Bernal expressed gratitude for the opportunities that allowed her to step out of her comfort zone, make new friends, and truly make the most of her time at CVTC. Her story serves as a reminder that with determination and support, anyone can achieve their dreams, no matter the obstacles they face.
