Children Unite with Jesus: Celebrating World Children’s Day

Pope Francis has declared the 25th and 26th of May 2024 to be the celebration of the first World Children’s Day at the Vatican, with the theme “Behold, I make all things new” (Rev 21:5). In a letter addressed to children, the Pope emphasized the importance of children as a source of joy for families and the human family as a whole.

Sr Oluwakemi Akinleye fsp highlights the preciousness of children and the need for love and protection for all children, regardless of where they are in the world. She emphasizes the role of parents in guiding their children, especially in the digital era where children are exposed to various vices through technology.

Barrister Mrs Virginia Mudimu from Zimbabwe speaks about the challenges parents face in raising children today, stressing the importance of spending quality time with children and guiding them on the proper use of technology.

Pope Francis also reminds children to remember those who are less fortunate and facing illness and hardship, urging them to pray and develop a loving relationship with God. He shares the secret of prayer with children, emphasizing its importance in filling their hearts with light and warmth.

As the world celebrates World Children’s Day, the focus is on entrusting children to God’s care and committing to their protection and well-being. The event serves as a reminder of the value of children and the need to nurture and support them in a world full of challenges.
