Lake Linden-Hubbell Schools recently honored their Class of 2024 Outstanding Male and Female Athlete Awards, recognizing Gabe Popko and Abi Codere for their exceptional achievements in sports.

Gabe Popko, a standout athlete, earned an impressive 13 varsity letters in four different sports during his high school career. From football to basketball, baseball, and track, Popko excelled in each discipline. He received numerous accolades, including All-Conference Offensive and Defensive Line honors in football, multiple All-Conference selections in basketball, and recognition as an outstanding hurdler and thrower in track.

Popko’s dedication and talent have not gone unnoticed, as he will represent Lake Linden-Hubbell in the UP all-star football game and the basketball border bash this summer. With a GPA of 3.71, Popko plans to continue his athletic and academic journey at Michigan Tech, where he will play football and major in General Engineering.

On the other hand, Abi Codere showcased her skills in volleyball and track, earning seven varsity letters throughout her high school career. Codere’s achievements include multiple All-Conference selections in volleyball and impressive performances in track events, such as the 100m hurdles, pole vault, and 4x100m relay.

With a GPA of 3.78, Codere has her sights set on Northern Michigan University, where she plans to major in sports science. Her dedication to sports and academics has been a driving force behind her success. Abi is the daughter of Ken and Elisabeth Codere, and her future looks bright as she continues to pursue her passion for athletics and education.
