Indiana’s Fort Wayne International Airport (FWA) is setting the bar high when it comes to welcoming passengers with a sweet treat. For the past 25 years, volunteers at FWA have been greeting travelers with big smiles and free, fresh-baked cookies. And if no volunteers are available, a self-serve cookie kiosk ensures that no passenger goes without a welcome-home snack.
The cookies, provided by Ellison, a wholesale bakery located near the airport, have become a staple for passengers arriving in Indiana. The bakery now supplies about 7,000 one-ounce packets of assorted bite-size cookies to the airport each month, free of charge.
But FWA’s commitment to passenger comfort doesn’t stop at cookies. The airport is currently undergoing a terminal renovation and expansion project that includes a range of accessibility features. From sensory rooms to family restrooms, FWA is dedicated to making travel easier for all passengers, including those with disabilities.
Some of the innovative features at FWA include rolled curbs for easier wheelchair access, low-profile baggage scales to assist travelers with limited mobility, and lounge-style seating designed for comfort and inclusivity. The airport also offers tactile cane trails, large gate numbers, and bright signage for easy navigation.
With glass jet bridges, a family restroom with an adult changing table, and a host of other amenities, FWA is striving to be the best front door for the Fort Wayne and Northeast Indiana community. By going above and beyond standard accessibility requirements, the airport is creating a stress-free travel experience for passengers of all abilities.
