As the election campaign heats up, both the Conservative and Labour parties have been unveiling their policy proposals to win over voters.

The Conservative Party has announced plans to bring back a “modern” form of national service for 18-year-olds, which could involve military service or volunteer work. They have also promised to introduce a new “triple lock plus” tax-free allowance for pensioners, as well as a new qualification framework for those aged 16 to 18. Additionally, the Tories remain committed to reaching net zero by 2050.

On the other hand, the Labour Party has pledged not to reverse recent cuts to national insurance or increase income tax. They have proposed abolishing the non-dom tax status for wealthy foreign nationals and introducing VAT on private school fees. Labour also plans to increase NHS capacity by delivering 40,000 more evening and weekend appointments per week.

A major policy pushed by Labour is the creation of Great British Energy, a publicly owned energy company aimed at reducing household bills and creating jobs. They also plan to recruit 6,500 new teachers in key subjects and establish a “national excellence programme” for professional development.

With both parties laying out their visions for the future, voters will have a lot to consider as they head to the polls. Stay tuned for more updates as the election campaign progresses.
