Kuwait’s Minister of Information and Culture Emphasizes the Significance of a Unified Media Discourse in the GCC at AMF 2024 – Global Event

The Arab Media Summit continued on its second day with a thought-provoking session led by His Excellency Abdul Rahman Al-Mutairi, Minister of Information and Culture of Kuwait. The session, titled ‘Kuwait’s Media: A New Media Era’, focused on the positive role of media in promoting national unity and supporting sustainable development in the region.

Attended by prominent figures such as His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, the session highlighted the importance of enhancing cooperation in the media sector and fostering a unified media discourse among Gulf Cooperation Council countries. His Excellency Al-Mutairi emphasized the need for collaboration and unity in the media industry to strengthen the region’s position as an economic, commercial, and cultural hub.

Discussing Kuwait’s 2021-2026 media strategy, Al-Mutairi outlined the country’s efforts to promote the media sector through partnerships with public and private institutions. The strategy aims to engage young media professionals, creative thinkers, and academics to enhance Kuwait’s regional and international standing in the digital space. Additionally, the launch of a news channel and the 51 Digital Platform initiative are set to further develop Kuwait’s media landscape.

Under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Emir of Kuwait, the country’s media sector is undergoing systematic development to ensure growth, sustainability, and the ability to face challenges. Al-Mutairi highlighted the Ministry of Information and Culture’s efforts to integrate traditional and digital media, issuing licenses for digital platforms to enhance professionalism and objectivity in the industry.

Furthermore, Al-Mutairi emphasized the importance of Gulf cooperation in the media sector, stressing the need to unify the region’s media discourse and preserve the national identity of GCC countries. He highlighted the productive collaboration between countries in the region, exchanging experiences and learning from successful media practices.

Looking ahead, Kuwait is working with Gulf countries to develop joint projects in the media sector, aiming to communicate Kuwait’s message globally and strengthen coordination and cooperation. Al-Mutairi emphasized the importance of a balanced media approach that prioritizes common interests and reinforces national identity in tackling challenges.

The session on Day 2 of the Arab Media Summit provided valuable insights into the positive impact of media in promoting national unity and supporting sustainable development in the region. With a focus on collaboration, innovation, and unity, Kuwait and other GCC countries are paving the way for a new era in the media industry.
