The Savannah Country Day boys and girls tennis teams have once again proven their dominance in the Greater Savannah area this season. Both squads clinched Region 3-3A titles and advanced to the Class 3A state quarterfinals, showcasing their exceptional talent on the court.
Under the guidance of coach Lamar Kirkley, the Hornet boys team secured its fourth consecutive region title with an impressive 18-3 record, remaining undefeated against teams from the Greater Savannah area. Despite a tough loss to Lumpkin in the state quarterfinals, Kirkley was honored as the All-Greater Savannah Boys Tennis Coach of the Year, attributing his success to the dedication and skill of his players.
On the girls’ side, coach Reid Owens led the Hornets to a stellar 18-3 record without a single loss to a team from the Greater Savannah area. Owens, in his first year with the team, was recognized as the Girls Tennis Coach of the Year for his outstanding leadership and the team’s remarkable results.
The All-Greater Savannah Boys and Girls Tennis teams have been announced, with standout players like Caleb McElveen, Henry Berg, Halee Harper, and Riley Metzger earning well-deserved recognition for their exceptional performances throughout the season.
The Coastal Empire High School Sports Awards show, set for June 7 at the Savannah Civic Center, will honor these talented athletes and announce the Players of the Year. The event, part of the USA TODAY High School Sports Awards program, promises to be a celebration of the outstanding achievements of these young tennis stars.
