Madurai: A skating rally was organised from Race Course Road to Yadava Women’s College in Madurai on Saturday morning, to promote a drug-free lifestyle and raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse. The event was organised by the prohibition enforcement wing (PEW) in association with Villapuram residents association and skating association.City police commissioner J Loganathan flagged off the 15km rally. More than 350 trained skaters, students, children, and their parents, participated in the event. Prior to the start, participants took a pledge to eradicate drugs.Officials from PEW stated that students affected by drug usage were invited to the rally along with their parents. “We are doing our best to make students aware of the ill effects of drug use, and the circulation of such intoxicants among students has decreased in the last few years,” said the officials.K Rama Lingam, a parent said that the event aimed not only to engage the community in a healthy activity but also to emphasize the importance of staying drug-free. “Through initiatives like this, apart from reducing drug usage we can build a safer, healthier community for the youth of Madurai,” added Lingam.
