Anchor Fired for Rolling Eyes During Interview with Family of Hamas Attack Victim

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Political commentator and newsreader Briahna Joy Gray was fired by US-based news broadcaster The Hill after a controversial interview with the sister of an Israeli abducted on October 7. Gray, a former press secretary for Senator Bernie Sanders, faced backlash for her behavior during the interview with Yarden Gonen, the sister of Romi Gonen.

During the interview, Yarden Gonen shared harrowing details of her sister’s abduction by Hamas militants, including witnessing her best friend’s death. When Gonen mentioned hoping Gray would believe female victims of sexual assault by Hamas terrorists, Gray rolled her eyes and abruptly ended the interview.

The incident sparked outrage online, with viewers condemning Gray’s actions. Hen Mazzig, founder of the Tel Aviv Institute, called Gray’s behavior “truly disgusting” and criticized her lack of empathy.

Gray, in response to her dismissal, accused The Hill of suppressing speech critical of Israel and claimed her firing was part of a coordinated effort. Gonen, on the other hand, emphasized that she wanted to share her sister’s story and raise awareness about the plight of hostages in Gaza.

The controversial interview and subsequent firing of Briahna Joy Gray have reignited discussions about journalistic integrity, freedom of speech, and the responsibility of news broadcasters to uphold ethical standards in reporting sensitive issues.
