Attack on Danish Prime Minister in Copenhagen Square

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen was the victim of a shocking assault on Friday evening in Copenhagen, according to her office. Reports from local media stated that she was “beaten” by a man in Kultorvet public square in the heart of the Danish capital.

The prime minister’s office confirmed that she was left “shocked” by the attack, although it was unclear if she had sustained any injuries. Danish police swiftly arrested a suspect in connection with the incident but provided no further details.

Eyewitnesses Marie Adrian and Anna Ravn recounted the harrowing event to newspaper BT, describing how the man forcefully shoved Ms. Frederiksen as she arrived at the square. Despite the strong push, the prime minister managed to stay on her feet and eventually sought refuge at a nearby cafe.

The witnesses further detailed how the assailant attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended and subdued by men in suits before he could escape. Another bystander, Kasper Jorgensen, observed the aftermath of the takedown, noting the confusion and disorientation displayed by the subdued man.

The assault on Prime Minister Frederiksen has been widely condemned, with EU officials and leaders expressing their outrage and denouncing the act of violence. As Ms. Frederiksen continues her campaign ahead of the European Parliament elections, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by politicians in an increasingly polarized political landscape.
