Former VCU men’s tennis head coach Anthony Rossi is set to bring his winning ways to the University of Florida as the new associate head coach for the Gators. Rossi will be replacing Mat Cloer, who has accepted a position with the USTA and will be stepping down from his role.

Rossi’s journey to becoming head coach at VCU was a rapid ascent, starting as an assistant coach and quickly moving up the ranks. During his time as head coach, Rossi achieved an impressive 79-31 record and led VCU to five conference titles.

Florida men’s tennis head coach Adam Steinberg expressed his excitement about Rossi joining the Gator family, highlighting Rossi’s exceptional playing background in the SEC and his successful tenure at VCU. Rossi’s coaching prowess was evident in the 2024 season when he led the Rams to their fifth consecutive championship without dropping a single dual match point. VCU junior Mathis Bondaz also flourished under Rossi’s guidance, climbing to a No. 57 ranking with the ITA and being named the conference’s most outstanding performer.

Rossi himself is eager to join the prestigious athletic department at Florida and work alongside Coach Steinberg and the talented student-athletes. With a rich history and tradition in tennis, Rossi is looking forward to contributing to the program’s continued success.

The addition of Anthony Rossi to the Gators’ coaching staff is sure to bring a new level of expertise and leadership to the team as they strive for excellence in the upcoming season.
