Abbeyleix, Tidy Towns Champion, Secures Funding for Health and Fitness Vitality Hub

Abbeyleix, the National Tidy Towns champion, is set to become even more attractive with the introduction of a new public physical activity hub. The Abbeyleix Vitality Hub, announced by Laois Sports Partnership in association with Sport Ireland, will be the fourth Community Sports and Physical Activity Hub in the county.

Located in Fr Breen Park, the hub will offer a range of physical activities, sports, and wellness initiatives to supplement the existing GAA, Soccer, Tennis, and Hockey Clubs already based in the park. Caroline Myers, CEO of Laois Sports Partnership, highlighted the importance of the hub in promoting a more active and healthier lifestyle for residents.

John Thompson, Chair of Abbeyleix Vitality Hub, emphasized the hub’s commitment to recognizing the diversity of the local community and increasing participation among all residents. The hub aims to address any gaps in activities and facilities that may hinder people from participating locally.

The steering committee of the Abbeyleix Vitality Hub, along with Hub Coordinator Liz Kennedy, is currently designing an Action Plan to boost activity and participation levels in the community. Residents from Abbeyleix and surrounding areas are encouraged to get involved by participating in taster sessions and completing an online survey.

The launch of the Abbeyleix Vitality Hub is set to take place on Sunday, April 28 in Fr Breen Park at 10 am. All clubs, organizations, and community volunteers from Abbeyleix and the surrounding areas are invited to attend and be a part of this exciting initiative to promote health and wellness in the community.
