EUGENE, Oreg. – Hakim Abouzouhir made history once again as he earned First Team All-American honors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase for the second consecutive season. The talented athlete posted an impressive time of 8:27.09 to finish fourth at the NCAA Outdoor Championships held at Oregon’s Hayward Field.

After his final collegiate race, Abouzouhir expressed his pride in representing the Colonels and the hard work put in by his coaches and staff. “It’s not easy. It’s four races in the last month and at this level of 8:25 to 8:28 shape, it requires a lot,” he said. Abouzouhir credited EKU’s steeplechase program for his success and emphasized the importance of hard work in achieving one’s goals.

Head coach Cory Erdmann praised Abouzouhir as an excellent representative of EKU, Morocco, and the program. “He wants to be a positive role model, a hard worker, and to have success as an athlete and as a student,” Erdmann said. The athlete ended his final collegiate outdoor season with the third-fastest steeplechase time in the country, setting a personal best of 8:25.37 at the Bryan Clay Invitational.

Abouzouhir, a native of Marrakech, Morocco, previously finished sixth at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Championships, solidifying his status as a top performer in the sport. His dedication and achievements have garnered praise from the entire EKU Track and Field community.
