Abu Dhabi Judo World Championship: Heavyweights Dominate the Competition

The 2024 Abu Dhabi World Championships came to a thrilling conclusion on its final day, with several standout performances and emotional moments marking the end of the individual competition.

In the -100kg category, Canada’s Shady ELNAHAS put on a stellar performance, aiming for a historic first Canadian gold in Abu Dhabi. However, it was Zelym KOTSOIEV from Azerbaijan who emerged victorious after a tough final, scoring a waza-ari with a sacrifice technique to claim the gold medal.

In the +78kg division, Japan’s Wakaba TOMITA faced off against Turkey’s Kayra OZDEMIR in a hard-fought battle for the gold. TOMITA emerged victorious with a hold down, securing the world title and expressing her emotions after the win.

The +100kg final saw Guram TUSHISHVILI looking to reclaim his 2018 title, but it was Minjong KIM who emerged triumphant with a swift counter leading to a hold down, earning him the coveted world gold medal.
