Abu Dhabi Launches Free Reading Program and Literary Workshop Today in the UAE

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi is currently buzzing with literary activities as a free-to-attend reading programme is underway, offering a plethora of engaging events for all ages. The seven-day event, coinciding with the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair 2024, kicked off today and will continue until Thursday, May 9, at Mamsha Al Saadiyat.

Organized by Miral, a prominent creator of immersive destinations and experiences in Abu Dhabi, the programme titled ‘Miral’s Reading Experience’ aims to promote a love for reading and literature among the community. The initiative is open to all without the need for prior registration, making it accessible to everyone interested in participating.

One of the highlights of the event is a book signing session featuring six-year-old Emirati author Alfai Al Marzooqi, who holds the Guinness World Records title as the youngest female author to publish a book. Attendees will also have the opportunity to contribute to a book donation drive, ensuring that used books find new homes and readers while promoting sustainable practices.

Taghrid AlSaeed, Miral’s executive director of group communications and destination marketing, expressed the organization’s commitment to fostering an inclusive community culture through literature. She emphasized the importance of the educational pillar of their CSR strategy and invited the community to engage in an enriching experience at Mamsha Al Saadiyat.

In addition to book-related activities, the event offers immersive literary workshops in both English and Arabic. Workshops on storytelling, writing, art, calligraphy, and Arabic name-writing will be conducted, along with a sustainable slime-making session for children by Hamad Al Marzooqi, Alfai Al Marzooqi’s four-year-old brother who is also a chef and entrepreneur.

Visitors can look forward to participating in various games and contests, including hangman, connect the dots, and a traditional ‘carrom’ tabletop board game. The programme also features spelling bee contests in English and Arabic, storytelling with puppets, and a local tales reading session called Al Khararif.

For those interested in attending the Miral Reading Experience, more information about the schedule and activities can be found on the group’s social media platforms.
