Virginia Beach and Richmond, two cities in Virginia, have been recognized among the top 150 places to live in the United States, according to a new ranking by U.S. News & World Report. Virginia Beach secured the eighth spot on the list, praised for its stunning ocean views, waterfront homes, and acclaimed dining scene that make it a desirable year-round living destination. Meanwhile, Richmond claimed the 68th spot, celebrated for its rich history, modern attractions, world-class museums, diverse food options, and entertainment opportunities.

Naples, Florida, took the top spot on the list due to its strong job market and high quality of life. The rankings saw some new entries in the top 25 from the Midwest and South regions following a shift in data collection from metropolitan areas to cities. Erika Giovanetti, a loans expert and reporter for U.S. News, emphasized the importance of city-based data in providing a localized perspective for individuals seeking a place to call home.

The top 10 places to live in the U.S. according to the U.S. News methodology include Naples, Florida; Boise, Idaho; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Greenville, South Carolina; Charlotte, North Carolina; Raleigh, North Carolina; Huntsville, Alabama; Virginia Beach, Virginia; Austin, Texas; and Boulder, Colorado. This year, U.S. News adjusted its scoring weights to prioritize a city’s value and job market, reflecting the growing concerns about career prospects, housing affordability, and cost of living. The rankings were based on factors such as job market, value, quality of life, and desirability, with input from a public survey to determine the qualities important in choosing a place to live.
