The Cougar men’s and women’s varsity teams from Jefferson High School came out on top at the Cardinal Classic on Friday, finishing in first place with 171 and 107 points, respectively. The athletes showcased their talent and determination, dominating the competition in various events.

In the 4×100 meter relay, Jayla Kidrick and Jazmyn Taylor worked together seamlessly, with Kidrick shouting instructions as she handed off the baton to Taylor. Their teamwork and speed helped secure a victory for Jefferson High School in the relay event.

In the 1600 meter run, junior Shawn Swartz gave his all and finished in second place, showcasing his endurance and skill on the track. Ty’Shaun Roper also made a significant contribution to the team’s success by anchoring the 4×200 meter relay team to a first-place finish.

Not to be outdone, junior Hannah Phillips dominated the 3200 meter race, finishing with an impressive time of 11:12.63 and a 58-second lead over the second-place winner. Her outstanding performance contributed valuable points to the team’s overall score.
