ACI APAC & MID Advocates for Enhanced Air Connectivity and Advanced Air Mobility Integration at ICAO Conference

Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: Airports Council International Asia-Pacific & Middle East (ACI APAC & MID), representing 624 airports, made a significant impact at the ICAO Conference of Directors General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for the Middle East region in Riyadh. The association delivered two crucial papers highlighting the urgent need for enhancing air connectivity and seamlessly integrating Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) into the current air transportation framework.

Air connectivity plays a vital role in global development, trade, and cultural exchange. The paper on connectivity stressed the importance of restoring and developing air connectivity, urging States to liberalize market access policies and simplify visa application processes for international travelers. ACI APAC & MID emphasized the need for harmonized standards, certifications, and policy frameworks to regulate the upcoming commercialization of AAM. These measures are essential to ensure safety, security, fair market access, and robust competition in the aviation industry.

Mr. Stefano Baronci, Director General of ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East, emphasized the key role of air transport in driving economic growth and facilitating global trade. He urged Governments to implement regulations tailored to the needs of the aviation industry and passengers, ensuring that stakeholders receive necessary resources and support. ACI APAC & MID’s initiatives aim to position the aviation industry for future challenges and opportunities.

Furthermore, ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East advocated for One-Stop Security to enhance airport security operations, adoption of innovative technologies at security checkpoints, and the use of guidance documents for climate resilience planning and airport solar photovoltaic implementation. The association continues to support initiatives that promote sustainability and efficiency in airport operations.

ICAO Middle East endorsed the MID-Air Transport Strategic Plan 2025-2040, co-drafted by ACI APAC & MID. The comprehensive plan aims to boost regional connectivity through policy adjustments, infrastructure development, and stakeholder consultation. Member states are encouraged to consider and implement the recommendations from the strategic plan in their national aviation policies.

ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East represents 133 airport members operating 624 airports across 47 countries/territories in Asia-Pacific and the Middle East. The association advocates for professional excellence in airport management and operations, promoting policies and services that strengthen members’ ability to serve passengers, employees, and stakeholders.

The ICAO Conference in Riyadh served as a platform for ACI APAC & MID to address critical issues facing the aviation industry and advocate for strategic measures to enhance air connectivity and integrate Advanced Air Mobility. The association’s proactive approach and collaborative efforts with stakeholders aim to shape the future of air transportation in the region and beyond.
