Actress from ‘The Office’ speaks out against ‘super judgy’ Christian joke

“The Office” actress Angela Kinsey recently shared a behind-the-scenes story from the popular NBC sitcom that highlighted her commitment to her Christian faith. In a conversation with co-star Rainn Wilson on his podcast “Soul Boom,” Kinsey revealed that she once refused to say a scripted line that she felt did not accurately portray Christians or the love of Christ.

Kinsey, who played the character Angela Martin on the show, discussed her real-life relationship with God and her views on the Church. She shared that she grew up Christian, with her mother teaching Sunday school and leading a weekly Bible study. Despite her character being known as an “uptight Christian cat lady,” Kinsey expressed her desire for her character to be portrayed as a full, well-rounded person.

The pivotal moment came during the show’s third season when Kinsey was supposed to deliver a “super judgy” line against Oscar, an openly gay character on the show. Feeling uncomfortable with the joke, Kinsey approached producer and showrunner Greg Daniels to express her concerns. Daniels listened to her feedback and ultimately removed the joke from the episode.

Kinsey’s commitment to her faith and her willingness to speak up for what she believed in resonated with fans and showcased her integrity as both an actress and a Christian. As she continues to navigate the entertainment industry, Kinsey remains grounded in her beliefs, with prayer remaining an important aspect of her family life.
