Adil Rashid expresses confidence as England prepares for T20 World Cup, aiming for world champions title

Reading Time: < 1 minute

England’s veteran spinner Adil Rashid is confident that the defending champions have what it takes to bounce back from their disappointing performance in the last year’s ODI World Cup and defend their title in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.

Despite finishing in seventh place with just three wins from nine matches in the 2023 tournament, Rashid believes that England has the team, players, and mindset to reclaim their crown in the highly anticipated T20 World Cup, which kicks off on June 1 in the USA and the West Indies.

Speaking at ECB’s launch of a national tape-ball competition, Rashid acknowledged the team’s poor performance in the previous tournament but emphasized that T20 cricket is a completely different format where England currently holds the title of world champions.

Rashid highlighted the importance of having the mindset of champions and not dwelling on past failures, stating that things can change quickly in a tournament and that playing with freedom can lead to success on the field.

England will begin their World Cup campaign against Scotland on June 4 at the Kensington Oval, Barbados, following a four-match T20I series against Pakistan to boost their preparations for the tournament.

With the experience, talent, and belief in their abilities, England will be looking to put their best foot forward and make a strong statement in their quest to defend their title in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
