Adobe Faces Backlash Over Updated Terms of Service

Adobe, known for its innovative software solutions, has recently come under fire for updates to its Terms of Service (ToS) that have left some users and contributors to Adobe Stock feeling uneasy. The new language in the ToS, which was sent out to Adobe Creative Cloud Suite users globally, includes provisions that allow Adobe to access, view, and analyze user content through automated and manual methods.

The controversial Section 2.2 of the updated ToS states that Adobe may access user content to improve its services and software using techniques such as machine learning. This has raised concerns among users about privacy and the potential misuse of their confidential content. Some users have taken to social media to express their discontent, with even Hollywood director Duncan Jones criticizing the company for the new agreement language.

In response to the backlash, a spokesperson for Adobe clarified that the company accesses user content for specific reasons, such as delivering cloud-based features like Photoshop Neural Filters and Remove Background in Adobe Express, as well as to combat prohibited content. Adobe emphasized that it does not access content stored locally on users’ devices.

Despite Adobe’s explanations, the ambiguity surrounding the updated ToS has led to a wave of users expressing their intention to cancel their Adobe subscriptions. It remains to be seen whether this backlash will have a significant impact on the company’s business, as similar controversies over ToS updates have occurred in the past across various online services.
