Adobe and OpenAI collaborate to enhance video tools with AI technology | Technology News

Adobe, the U.S. software maker, is making waves in the industry by allowing third-party generative artificial intelligence tools such as OpenAI’s Sora to be integrated into its popular video editing software, Premiere Pro. This move is set to revolutionize the way videos are edited in the television and film industries.

The AI-based features that Adobe is planning to add to Premiere Pro include the ability to fill in parts of a scene with AI-generated objects and remove distractions from a scene without manual intervention from a video editor. These features will rely on Firefly, an AI model that Adobe has already deployed in its Photoshop software for editing still images.

In a bid to differentiate itself from competitors like OpenAI, Midjourney, and others, Adobe has focused on training its Firefly system with data it has full rights to and offering indemnity to users against copyright claims. Additionally, Adobe is working on a way to allow users to access third-party tools from OpenAI, Runway, and Pika Labs to generate and use video within Premiere Pro.

Deepa Subramaniam, Adobe’s vice president of product marketing for creative professional apps, emphasized that Adobe’s commitment to AI ethics and human bias work remains unchanged. Users will be informed when they are not using Adobe’s “commercially safe” AI models, and all videos produced by Premiere Pro will clearly indicate which AI technology was used.

This development is expected to address concerns from Wall Street about the potential risks AI tools for generating images and videos pose to Adobe’s core businesses. With this innovative approach, Adobe is paving the way for a more diverse and advanced video editing experience for its users.
