Emma King’s journey at ‘Echo Hills’ in south-east Queensland is a testament to the power of ag-tech in modern agriculture. When she and her husband Angus took over the property in 2021, they turned to AgriWebb’s mapping tool to help them navigate the vast land they now managed. Since then, they have fully embraced ag-tech to enhance their cattle enterprise.

With around 8,000ha of land, Emma and Angus run a diverse business at Echo Hills, including 300 Angus/Santa-cross breeders and a grassfed trading operation. Their goal is to build a sustainable breeding herd that provides grassfed beef to the local market. Last year, they successfully turned off rising two-year-old steers at 650kg off grass, showcasing the efficiency of their operation.

This system not only simplifies farm audits but also streamlines processes like tracking cattle movements and monitoring livestock production.

Additionally, Emma and Angus utilize Farmbot for remote monitoring of water levels and plan to incorporate it into pump operations in the future. They also rely on Cibo Labs’ satellite imagery for improved forecasting of grazing plans, ensuring they never run out of feed for their cattle.

Innovations like the Optiweigh mobile unit have also revolutionized their livestock management, allowing them to remotely track livestock performance and identify animals ready for market. Emma is optimistic about the future potential of ag-tech, emphasizing the importance of continuous improvement and collaboration with vendors to maximize its benefits.

As Emma and Angus continue to leverage ag-tech to enhance their operations at Echo Hills, their story serves as a shining example of how technology can drive efficiency, sustainability, and profitability in modern agriculture.
