Aggie women’s tennis engages with fans during celebration

Texas A&M women’s tennis team celebrated their first national championship win in style at the Jackie Sherrill Lettermen’s Club on Tuesday. The team had previously reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Championships in the last two seasons but fell short. This time, they were determined to come out on top and did so by winning three straight 4-1 victories for the crown, including a victory over SEC rival Georgia.

Head coach Mark Weaver expressed his gratitude to the fans and supporters for their unwavering support. The team’s victory marks A&M’s fifth team national championship since joining the SEC, with the last one being in 2017.

The celebration was attended by school President Mark Welsh III, who commended the team for putting A&M on the map and making the university proud. Former A&M women’s coach Bobby Kleinecke was also present at the event, highlighting the strong legacy of the program.

Weaver, who had a successful career as a player at A&M, credited his coaching staff and the hard work of the student-athletes for the team’s success. The return of Carson Branstine, who overcame injury to rejoin the team, was a crucial factor in the championship run.

The team’s camaraderie and work ethic were key to their success, as they outscored opponents 24-4 in six postseason matches. With only one senior in the lineup, the future looks bright for A&M women’s tennis.

As the celebrations came to a close, Weaver expressed hope for more championships in the future, setting the stage for continued success for the women’s tennis program at Texas A&M.
