Blue Springs Park Shooting Leads to Arrest Thanks to AI-Equipped Cameras
A shooting at Blue Springs Park earlier this month resulted in the tragic deaths of two individuals, but thanks to the help of an AI-equipped camera system, police were able to track down the suspect responsible for the crime.
The suspect, Marquis Earl-Lee Savannah, was arrested on a warrant for first-degree murder after charging documents pointed to the assistance of the camera network provided by Flock Safety, an Atlanta-based company. This advanced camera system, stationed at high-traffic intersections and popular locations like parks, proved to be a valuable tool in the investigation.
Captain Kyle Flowers of the Blue Springs Police Department praised the effectiveness of the Flock cameras, stating that they have been using the network for approximately one year and find it to be incredibly helpful in their investigations.
The cameras, equipped with AI technology, are able to capture a wide range of information beyond just license plates. They can identify vehicles based on make, model, and other characteristics, allowing investigators to narrow down their search and track vehicles back in time for up to 30 days.
In this particular case, the Flock camera system played a crucial role in identifying the suspect’s vehicle and ultimately leading to his arrest. The success of this technology has prompted other law enforcement agencies in Missouri and Kansas to partner with Flock Safety for their investigative needs.
While the use of this technology is on the rise, Blue Springs Police made it clear that they only use it as an investigative tool and do not engage in live monitoring or issue traffic citations based on the camera footage. The focus remains on using the technology to solve crimes and bring perpetrators to justice.
