Cabinet Minister Senator Dr Dana Morris Dixon has highlighted the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to revolutionize various industries in Jamaica, emphasizing the need for the workforce to adapt and recalibrate their skills.

Speaking at the Youth Education Association’s Youth in Accounting and Auditing Conference at the University of Technology (UTech), Morris Dixon, who is the Minister without Portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) with responsibility for skills and digital transformation, discussed the transformative power of AI.

She pointed out that AI technology could automate up to 30 per cent of current work hours within the next six years, affecting sectors such as healthcare, education, and science. By automating routine tasks like data entry and transaction processing, AI allows professionals to focus on more strategic activities that require human insight.

Morris Dixon emphasized the importance of developing skills in AI management, ethics, and collaboration to effectively work alongside AI systems. She highlighted the need for organizations and educational institutions to create an environment where humans and machines collaborate to maximize benefits while minimizing risks.
