AI stethoscope technology approved by FDA for detecting heart failure

Reading Time: < 1 minute

A groundbreaking new artificial intelligence technology developed by the Mayo Clinic and Eko Health is revolutionizing the way heart failure is detected. With more than 6 million Americans and 11 million people worldwide suffering from heart failure, early detection is crucial in preventing serious complications.

The AI-enhanced stethoscope, recently cleared by the FDA, can now analyze a person’s heart strength in just 10 to 15 seconds, catching some of the earliest signs of heart failure with reduced ejection fraction. This innovative technology was trained by listening to over 100,000 patients’ recordings and interpreting their heart activity.

Connor Landgraf, CEO of Eko Health, shared his personal motivation behind developing this AI technology, stating, “I had pulmonary disease in my family. And I just felt like there had to be better technologies or better ways that physicians could use these tools to identify early signs of disease.”

Dr. Paul Friedman, a cardiologist at the Mayo Clinic, emphasized the importance of early detection, noting that heart failure is often underdetected and can lead to serious consequences if left untreated.

The AI-enhanced stethoscope is now available for purchase at $429 with a monthly subscription. This new technology is a game-changer in the field of cardiology, offering a quick and accurate way to detect heart failure and potentially save lives.
