Aid Revives Gaza Bakery: A Story of Hope | Global News

In a ray of hope amidst the devastation in Gaza City, a bakery has reopened its doors after six months of closure, thanks to aid from the World Food Programme (WFP). The bakery, located in a part of the territory where a U.N.-backed report has warned of imminent famine, is now providing much-needed food to the residents.

Abdelrahman al-Jadba, a father clutching a bag of freshly baked loaves, expressed his relief at being able to feed his children once again. He shared the heartbreaking reality of having to give his children bread made from flour mixed with sand during the bakery’s closure.

The WFP has been working tirelessly to deliver aid to the north of Gaza, where the bakery is located. They successfully delivered fuel and wheat flour to the bakery, enabling it to produce 14,000 bread parcels daily. This delivery marks the first step in providing essential food supplies to the war-torn region.

Despite the challenges and obstacles, the bakery workers are determined to serve their community. Motaz Ajour, a bakery worker, expressed gratitude for the aid that allowed their bakery to reopen after 170 days of closure. He mentioned the long lines of people waiting outside the bakery, highlighting the urgent need for more bakeries to reopen in northern Gaza.

The reopening of the bakery has brought a sense of relief to the residents, with the price of bread significantly reduced. Al-Jadba shared his gratitude for being able to feed his children and expressed hope for a better tomorrow. As aid continues to flow into Gaza, there is a glimmer of hope for the people struggling to survive in the midst of conflict and devastation.
