Aira Abalos of TCNJ Receives Women’s Tennis Player of the Year Award; All-Conference Team Revealed

In a thrilling announcement, Aira Abalos and Zoey Albert from The College of New Jersey have been crowned as the New Jersey Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Player and Rookie of the Year for the 2024 season. The duo’s exceptional performances on the court have earned them this prestigious recognition.

Aira Abalos, a junior from Bloomfield, NJ, secured the NJAC Player of the Year title by maintaining a flawless 5-0 record in top-flight NJAC singles matches. She also excelled in doubles play alongside Marcella Warner, boasting a perfect 5-0 record in second-flight NJAC doubles matches. Abalos has now become a three-time all-NJAC singles and two-time all-NJAC doubles honoree.

On the other hand, freshman sensation Zoey Albert from Millers Creek, NC, clinched the NJAC Rookie of the Year award. Albert showcased her talent by finishing with a 5-0 record in NJAC singles play at the No. 2 spot, dropping just three games throughout the conference matches. She also paired up with Chase Eisenberg in doubles play, achieving a flawless 5-0 record in league matches.

Additionally, Ramapo head coach Raza Baig and assistant Prasanna Fernando were honored as the Flo Labenski Coaching Staff of the Year for their outstanding leadership that guided the Roadrunners to a 4-1 league record and hosting rights to one of the conference semifinals.

The NJAC Women’s Tennis All-Conference Team selections were made by a vote of the league’s six head coaches, recognizing the top performers in conference-only match results. Abalos, Albert, and the coaching staff at Ramapo have truly left a mark in the 2024 tennis season with their exceptional skills and leadership.
