Airlangga Hartarto Ensures Stable Business Environment for UK Companies in Indonesia

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, recently showcased Indonesia’s Special Economic Zones (SEZs) to British investors during the Indonesia SEZ Business Forum in London. Minister Hartarto highlighted Indonesia’s impressive economic growth rate of 5.05%, surpassing the global average of 3%, positioning Indonesia as one of the top five fastest-growing economies worldwide.

The forum emphasized the various SEZs in Indonesia, focusing on sectors such as energy transition and sustainable manufacturing. Officials discussed the fiscal and non-fiscal incentives available to investors, making these zones attractive investment destinations. Key representatives from the SEZs were present to provide detailed insights, showcasing the pivotal role these zones play in Indonesia’s economic strategy.

Minister Hartarto reassured UK businesses of the conducive investment environment in Indonesia, citing the stability and investor confidence following recent peaceful elections. The event also addressed Indonesia’s aspirations to join the OECD and strategies to navigate the middle-income trap by 2045.

John W.H. Denton, Secretary-General of the International Chamber of Commerce, praised Indonesia’s progress towards OECD membership, highlighting the potential benefits to the Asia-Pacific region and the global economy. The forum concluded with Acting Secretary General of the SEZ National Council, Rizal Edwin Manansang, calling the SEZs a “breakthrough in economic balance,” marking a significant step in Indonesia’s journey towards becoming a key player in the global economy and fostering stronger economic ties with the UK.
