Albanian Travel & Tourism Sector Breaks Records in 2023, Forecasted to Continue Growth in 2024
The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has released its 2024 Economic Impact Research (EIR) report, showcasing the remarkable success of the Albanian Travel & Tourism sector in 2023. According to the report, the sector contributed significantly to the country’s economy, reaching a record high GDP contribution of almost L565BN, a 37% increase from 2019.
In addition to the economic impact, the sector also supported a record number of jobs in 2023, with almost 269,000 jobs created, representing one in five jobs in Albania. International visitor spending saw a surge of over 45% from the previous peak in 2019, reaching L464BN, while domestic visitor spending also exceeded 2019 levels, totaling more than L100BN.
Looking ahead to 2024, WTTC forecasts continued growth for the sector, with the total GDP contribution expected to reach almost L608.5BN and an additional 10,000 jobs to be created. International visitor spending is projected to increase by 55% to over L493BN, with domestic visitor spending also anticipated to rise to over L107BN.

With the construction of Vlora International Airport and the country’s rich cultural heritage and stunning landscapes, Albania is poised to attract even more international visitors in the coming years. The WTTC forecasts continued growth for the sector, with annual GDP contribution projected to reach L749BN by 2034 and over 314,000 people employed in the sector.
Albania’s success in the Travel & Tourism sector highlights its position as one of Europe’s increasingly popular tourism destinations, with a promising outlook for the future.
