The Albany Symphony is gearing up for an exciting event that music lovers won’t want to miss. The 2024 American Music Festival, titled “Water Music NY: More Voices,” will showcase live new works from world-renowned composers debuting at the EMPAC concert hall on the RPI campus and various locations throughout Troy, NY from June 7-9.
Music Director David Alan Miller describes the festival as the beginning of a three-year project that will celebrate and explore the history of New York through the untold stories of its people. The festival will kick off with Dogs of Desire on June 7, celebrating 30 years of the innovative ensemble with performances by Dai Wei, del Pino, Sohn, Bansal, and JURAKHAN.
On June 8, audiences can look forward to “FLOW,” a commission by Clarice Assad that takes listeners on a musical journey through the symbolic currents of emotions, exploring themes of change, resilience, and the passage of time through the idea of water. The festival will feature performances by renowned composers like Joan Tower, Christopher Theofanidis, and Brandon Patrick George, as well as new creators taking the stage for the first time.
The event will also include performances by Jack Frerer covering hits by NY-born songwriters, followed by a late-night lounge event with the sultry Brazilian rhythms of father-daughter duo Sérgio and Clarice Assad. The festival will come to a close on June 9 with “The Last of James Fenimore Cooper,” a witty and satirical quartet by Native American composer Brent Michael Davids at The Sanctuary for Independent Media.
Don’t miss this unique opportunity to experience a diverse range of musical talents and celebrate the rich history of New York through the power of music at the Albany Symphony’s American Music Festival.
