Alderney Golf Club’s Success in Defeating Dollar Spot with Origin Amenity Solutions – Golf Business News

Alderney Golf Club Overcomes Dollar Spot Threat with Innovative Turf Management Solutions

Nestled on the picturesque Alderney Island, Alderney Golf Club has long been a favorite destination for golf enthusiasts seeking a challenging yet beautiful course. However, in recent years, the club faced a persistent threat to its greens in the form of Dollar Spot, a fungal disease known for its detrimental impact on turf health and playing performance.

Dollar Spot causes small tanned spots, about the size of a Dollar coin, to appear on the turf, ultimately leading to large areas of turf being wiped out. Both Poa and Bent grasses, which make up the botanical sward composition at Alderney Golf Club, were at risk due to their susceptibility to the disease.

After struggling with Dollar Spot for half a decade, the club sought the expertise of Origin Amenity Solutions (OAS), a leading provider of turf management solutions. Working closely with OAS technical advisor Marcus Hewitt, the club devised a proactive strategy to combat Dollar Spot and rejuvenate its greens.

The implementation of Exteris Stressgard, a potent fungicide, along with a tailored regimen of nutrients and wetting agents, proved to be a game-changer for Alderney Golf Club. The results were remarkable, with Course Manager Paul Flairclough noting a significant improvement in the condition of the course and positive feedback from members and visitors.

As autumn approached, the club continued to maintain its greens with dedicated fungicide applications, keeping Dollar Spot at bay and preparing for any potential outbreaks. The success story of Alderney Golf Club serves as a testament to the power of strategic collaboration and innovation in turf management, showcasing the club’s resilience and commitment to excellence.

Paul Flairclough sums it up best, stating, “Exteris worked extremely well on our golf course, and we had good control over Dollar Spot for the first time in five years. The grass was healthy and looking amazing.” With the support of OAS and cutting-edge solutions, Alderney Golf Club continues to shine as a beacon of quality and beauty in the Channel Islands.
