Miami Hurricanes’ Alexa Noel Wins NCAA Women’s Tennis Singles Championship

Miami Hurricanes’ Alexa Noel made history by winning the NCAA Women’s Tennis Singles Championship, becoming the first Hurricane to do so since Estela Perez-Somarriba in 2019. Ranked No. 10 nationally, Noel dominated the tournament with impressive wins over top-ranked opponents.

Noel started her journey to the championship with a convincing victory over Texas’s Tanya Sasnouskaya. She then battled through a tough match against USC’s Grace Piper before defeating North Carolina’s Anika Yarlagadda in the Sweet 16. In the Elite 8, Noel faced Stanford’s Alexandra Yepifanova and secured a spot in the Final Four by defeating the No. 1 women’s tennis player in the world, Mary Stoiana.

In the championship match, Noel faced off against Georgia’s Anastasiia Lopata. Despite being down 6-4, 3-1, Noel staged a remarkable comeback to win the title in a thrilling 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 victory. With this win, Noel joins a select group of UM legends as the third singles champion in Miami history under head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews.

Yaroshuk-Tews praised Noel’s performance, highlighting her poise and toughness throughout the tournament. Noel’s victory cements her as a special talent in college tennis, and she is expected to return for her senior season with high expectations and a rise in the national rankings.
