The Alhambra Orchestra is set to perform a concert of American music on Sunday, June 2, at the Wertheim Performing Arts Center on the FIU campus. Led by artistic director Daniel Andai, the orchestra will showcase a variety of iconic American compositions, including excerpts from Bernstein’s West Side Story, Grofe’s Grand Canyon Suite, Copland’s Hoedown and Fanfare for the Common Man, and John Williams’ Jurassic Park score.
The highlight of the evening will be pianist Mia Vassilev’s performance of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, marking the 100th anniversary of this beloved work. Additionally, local arts advocate Mark Hart will narrate Copland’s thrilling Lincoln Portrait, adding a unique and engaging element to the concert.
