Alipay+, KEPF, and JTO Partner to Enhance Travel Experience for International Visitors to Jeju
In an effort to provide convenient digital payment services and exclusive offers to international visitors exploring the picturesque island destination of Jeju, Alipay+, KEPF, and JTO signed a business agreement on April 25 at the Jeju Welcome Center in South Korea.
The partnership will allow users of 11 Alipay+ partner e-wallets to enjoy exclusive offers of up to 50% off at ZeroPay merchants across Jeju Island by simply scanning the ZeroPay QR code at the merchant’s counter with their home e-wallet apps. This initiative aims to enhance the travel experience for international tourists and contribute to boosting the local economy.
According to the Jeju Tourism Organization, there has been a significant increase in foreign tourists visiting Jeju, with 377,734 visitors between January and March this year, marking a 532.5% increase from the same period last year. The majority of international travelers to Jeju came from China, followed by Taiwan, Singapore, and Japan.
Hyung Kwon (Danny) Chung, General Manager of Alipay+ Korea, Europe, Middle East, and Mongolia at Ant International, expressed his excitement about the collaboration, stating, “We hope this partnership contributes to a recovery in inbound tourism to Jeju and revitalizes local businesses.”
Koh Seung-cheol, CEO of Jeju Tourism Office, highlighted the importance of promoting QR code-based transactions to boost the spending of foreign tourists and foster economic growth in the local community. Choi Tong-joo, CEO of Korea Easy Payment Foundation, also emphasized the goal of developing a seamless payment infrastructure for both domestic and international services.
Since the implementation of the Alipay+ solution at traditional markets on Jeju, there has been a significant increase in transactions, indicating a positive response from visitors. This partnership is expected to further enhance the payment experience for international tourists and promote Jeju as a premier global tourism destination.
