All-Americans Cassone and Bullard’s NCAA Quarterfinal Run Comes to an End

Arizona State men’s tennis team faced heartbreak at the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship quarterfinals at Greenwood Tennis Center. Murphy Cassone and Jacob Bullard fought hard but ultimately fell short in third-set tiebreaks in both their singles and doubles matches.

Cassone, a standout player, had a remarkable season, earning a spot in the quarterfinals for the second consecutive year. However, he couldn’t secure a spot in the semifinals, losing a tough match to Arizona’s #22 Colton Smith in a close 4-6, 6-2, 6-7(3) battle. Despite the loss, Cassone’s performance throughout the season earned him two All-American nods.

In the doubles competition, Cassone and Bullard, who had a stellar 13-3 record together, put up a valiant effort but couldn’t overcome Florida State’s #12-ranked doubles team. The match went to a third-set tiebreak, with the Sun Devils duo falling 4-6, 6-2, 0-1(6).

Despite the disappointing end to their title run, Cassone and Bullard’s performance was commendable, earning them doubles All-American status. This achievement marked the first time Arizona State had doubles All-Americans since 1999.
